Finding affordable and accessible housing can be hard for low-income individuals, those receiving Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits, or those with disabilities.     1. Public Housing
      Local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) run public housing. You pay rent based on your income, usually 30% of what you earn. Many units are wheelchair-accessible or can be changed to be accessible. Click here to learn more.

    2. Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8)
      This program helps you rent from private landlords. The voucher pays part of the rent, and you pay about 30% of your income. You can use it in different places if the landlord accepts it.
      Housing vouchers are offered in the following counties: Glynn, Coweta, Muscogee, Richmond, Dekalb, Cobb, College Park, Jonesboro and Clayton County and Chatham County. Click here to learn more.

    3. Project-Based Section 8 Housing
      The government helps pay rent for the building you live in. You pay rent based on your income while you live there. This is often for elderly, disabled, or very low-income people. Click here to learn more.

    4. Supportive Housing for the Elderly

      This is affordable housing for low-income seniors (62 or older) with or without disabilities. It includes services like transportation, meals, or personal help. Units are usually wheelchair-accessible. Click here to learn more.

    5. Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Properties

      These are affordable private apartments built with tax credits. Rent is capped for people earning less than the area’s average income. Some units are wheelchair-accessible.

    6. Permanent Supportive Housing

      This is affordable housing with services like case management, healthcare, or life skills. It’s for people with disabilities, chronic health issues, or those at risk of homelessness. Click here to learn more.

    7. Special Needs Housing (Georgia Examples)

      HUD Section 811 PRA (via Georgia DCA): This program offers paid-for units with services for adults (18–61) with disabilities at risk of homelessness. Click here to learn more.

    8. Group Homes / Assisted Living

      These homes are for people who need help with daily tasks. They are often funded by Medicaid or state disability programs. They are fully wheelchair-accessible and set up for medical needs.

    9. Co-Housing

      A type of housing where people live in a private home but share common spaces such as kitchens, living rooms, and outdoor spaces.

    10. Rural Development (USDA) Housing
