Who Qualifies

Must be:

  • Georgia residents

  • Cannot read standard print due to blindness, low vision, a physical disability, or a reading disability such as dyslexia. This must be certified by a certified professional.

Application Process

Step 1: Check if You Qualify
You must live in Georgia and have trouble reading regular print because of blindness, low vision, a physical disability, or a reading disability like dyslexia. A qualified professional must confirm your disability.

Step 2: Fill Out the Application
Get the GLS application form online or request a paper copy. Here is the link.

Step 3: Get the Form Signed
A qualified professional—such as a doctor, nurse, therapist, teacher, librarian, or caregiver—must sign the form to confirm that you cannot read regular print. Family members usually cannot sign this form.

Step 4: Send in the Application
After the form is filled out and signed, send it to GLS by mail, fax, or email using the contact information on the form. GLS staff will contact you after they receive it.

Description

The Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled provides free books and magazines in audio and braille formats for people who are blind or have physical disabilities that make reading print difficult. GLS also helps people learn how to use assistive technology so they can read, learn, and enjoy books more independently. They are both a walk-in library and distribution center, offering books and magazines throughout the state.
