Who Qualifies: Georgia residents may qualify if they cannot read regular print because of blindness, low vision, a physical disability, or a reading disability like dyslexia. A qualified professional (such as a doctor, teacher, or therapist) must confirm that the person has a disability that makes reading print difficult.

A person will not qualify if they can read regular print without difficulty or if their reading difficulty is only due to limited schooling, low reading skills, or language barriers unrelated to a disability. An application will also be denied if a qualified professional does not confirm a print-related disability or if the condition does not meet the program’s rules.

Application Process:
Step 1: Check if You Qualify
You must live in Georgia and have trouble reading regular print because of blindness, low vision, a physical disability, or a reading disability like dyslexia. A qualified professional must confirm your disability.

Step 2: Fill Out the Application
Get the GLS application form online or request a paper copy. You will fill in basic information like your name, address, and contact details, and check the box that explains your disability.

Step 3: Get the Form Signed
A qualified professional—such as a doctor, nurse, therapist, teacher, librarian, or caregiver—must sign the form to confirm that you cannot read regular print. Family members usually cannot sign this form.

Step 4: Send in the Application
After the form is filled out and signed, send it to GLS by mail, fax, or email using the contact information on the form. GLS staff will contact you after they receive it.

Step 5: Start Using the Service
Once approved, GLS will send you free books and magazines in audio, braille, or large print. If needed, they will also loan you free reading equipment and help you learn how to use it.
